National Right to Life 2007 Regional Competition

  Speech Content
1. Entrants must be in the eleventh or twelfth grades.
2. Entrants must fill out a "Contestant Application Form" and return it to North Carolina Right to Life in order to be registered for the contest and to receive additional information.
3. Entrants are to research, write and present an original pro-life speech on abortion, infanticide, or euthanasia.
4. The speech is to be 5 - 7 minutes in length. The entrant will be disqualified if the speech is under 4 minutes or over 8 minutes in length.
5. The speech is an oration. Appropriate gestures are allowed, but the speech is not to become a dramatic presentation. Props are not allowed.
6. Provided the speech is unequivocally pro-life, any aspect of the topic may be addressed.
7. Contestants will make their presentations in Greensboro on May 5, 2007. The number of applicants will determine the length of time of the competition. Further information concerning the times and locations of the contest will be mailed to the persons from whom we receive applications.
8. A copy of the contestant's speech and the contestant's school photo must be given to the judges on the day of the contest just prior to the competition.
9. Students competing at the state level may make minor stylistic and timing changes before giving their presentations at the national competition, but must give substantially the same speech that has been submitted to the judges at the state level.
10. Speakers do not have to memorize their presentations. They may refer to notes or their written text while speaking.

 

  Prizes and Further Information
1. The North Carolina winner will receive registration for the Teens for Life Convention to be held in conjunction with the National Right to Life Convention in Kansas City, Missouri on June 16, 2007. In addition, the winner will be reimbursed up to $300 for the expenses incurred in attending the national competition. Parents or guardians should be registered for the NRLC Convention. The winner must be prepared to attend the reception on Friday night, June 15, the contest on June 16 which can last until 5 p.m., and the banquet on Saturday night (for the contestant who is declared the winner of the NRLC contest).
2. The winner and runner up at the state level will receive plaques and all participants will receive certificates of participation and other items in recognition of their efforts and participation.
