     NCRTL has been your consistent pro-life voice in North Carolina for the last 29 years. With the largest pro-life lending library in our state, NCRTL is known as the voice of the pro-life movement and the place to get the most up-to-date pro-life information.

     Affecting public policy is one of our major strategies for changing and overcoming the "culture of death." According to our National President Wanda Franz, "the reasons for pursuing a strategy of enacting pro-life laws and public policies are threefold: (1) such laws and policies influence those seeking and performing abortions, thus they protect lives; (2) once in place, they teach and promote pro-life values; and (3) even the process of promoting them through legislative and public debate teaches and "raises consciousness" of those indifferent to the right to life movement or ignorant of the facts."

     In conjunction with the National Right to Life Committee (NRLC), NCRTL works for the passage of pro-life legislation. Some recent examples are: the ban on Cloning, the Partial Birth Abortion Ban Act, the Born Alive Infant Protection Act, the Child Custody Prevention Act, and many others.

     The combined efforts of NRLC and NCRTL have succeeded in preventing pro- abortion legislation from becoming the law of the land, i.e. the Freedom of Choice Act, which would have codified Roe v. Wade and stricken the state laws that allow for parental consent and informed consent.

     In North Carolina, NCRTL successfully lobbied for a Parental Consent for Abortion law, the slashing of the abortion fund, the passage of Infant Homicide Prevention law.

     Because of these public policy efforts and all of our educational efforts, we are happy to report that abortions in North Carolina have decreased 23% over the last 10 years. It is the support of the pro-life community that has been at the heart of this change. Without their support North Carolina Right to Life could not conitnue to be the voice for the voiceless.
